Originally from Tobyhanna, Pennsylvania, Athena Abate is a senior majoring in
electrical engineering. Abate’s involvement includes Women in Engineering,
Engineering Ambassadors, Phi Sigma Rho and College of Engineering Career Envoys.
She also completed a co-op with NASA Goddard Space Flight Center, where she will
be working full time after her graduation in December.
Abate chose Penn State because of its variety of majors and for the amount of school
spirit the students exuberate. Her favorite spot on campus is the Hintz pond, where
she goes on a daily basis.
When asked what Penn State Homecoming means to her, Abate said: “Spirit. It
brings back all of the alumni, it gathers all of the students, and we make it such an
event. No weather (as it has been tried in the past) can stop it.”
