From the Homecoming 2008 Logo Designer:
As a proud Penn State student, I believe this year's Homecoming logo should foremost represent inspiration and tradition to all of Penn State's community, including students, faculty, and alumni. As the Blue Band marches through the Homecoming parade each year, they are able to create a sense of jubilation among the entire crowd. This logo captures this attitude through free-flowing imagery and type. I used fluid lines in the logo that give it a fun, celebratory feel. The hand-drawn quality relates back to the student and alumni involvement in the Homecoming celebration that everyone looks forward to each year.
In the logo, the Homecoming theme radiates from the Blue Band member's instrument like music calling out to the viewer. The image gives the illusion of the band member marching forward with pride and excitement. This picks up on the inspirational attitude of the logo, yet it still refers back to the tradition of the Blue Band and the Homecoming parade. The 2008 on the bottom of the shoe represents that this year's Homecoming is a step in a new direction that will leave a mark of tradition in years to come. The overall feel of this logo definitely represents aspirations for a bright future and pride in past traditions to all members of the Penn State community.
